    Laura Lucas, MA

    Laura believes in creating a comfortable therapeutic environment to facilitate healing through a positive and collaborative process. Her client-centered approach empowers clients to take ownership of their narrative that is met with support and acceptance.

     

    Education and Training

    Laura earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at Azusa Pacific University as well as her B.A. in Psychology at the University of Hawaii. She is currently receiving education and training to obtain a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology. Her primary areas of training include trauma history and interventions, motivational interviewing, substance use treatment, working with those with marginalized identities, and operating through a systemic lens. She also has experience working with individuals with varying levels of developmental disabilities.

    Experience

    Laura’s passion for pursuing psychology began when mentoring at-risk children and teens in a diverse community. Her experiences include working in school settings, a community counseling center, and a VA; all of which have contributed to her understanding the unique journey of transformation for every person. It is both work and life experiences that have shaped her desire to help clients achieve greater fulfillment.

    Laura assesses the client’s needs and preferences to ensure the best fit for treatment. She utilizes a variety of approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), solution focused therapy (SFT), and is eager to learn more each day.
